EXECUTIVE BIOGRAPHY

James R. Bernlohr is the founder and Principal in Charge of J.R. Bernlohr Architects, Inc. located in Annapolis, Maryland. Bernlohr is personally responsible for all design, coordination of staff and consultants, production of contract documents, and oversees construction administration on major projects.
 

Since opening the firm in 2000, Bernlohr has served private individuals, regional developers, national corporations, and international franchises. The firm is established as a national leader in the design and development of fitness facilities and has completed over 450 projects throughout the U.S. and abroad. Regardless of size, scope, or budget, JRBA strives to provide the most creative design solution leading to the most effective use of every construction dollar. Bernlohr has served as a member of the American Institute of Architects, National Historic Preservation Board, International Code Council, National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, The National Fire Protection Agency, and The Construction Specification Institute. He holds registration in eighteen states and is NCARB certified for reciprocity throughout the United States.

 

Bernlohr earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The Pennsylvania State University and attended the Architectural Association in London, England. He was a prep All American before playing soccer at Penn State. He is now married with three sons and still enjoys playing soccer, boating the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and kayaking the lakes of the Adirondacks.

About the Role

J. R. Bernlohr Architects is actively seeking an entry-level drafter for our Annapolis office. This individual will draft and revise detailed drawings using Vectorworks and/or Google Sketchup for use in planning, permitting, reports, and various construction documents. Projects range from residential homes, commercial restaurants, and gymnasiums.

  • Aid designers and senior architects with the preparation of architectural drawing packages. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline

  • 2 or more years of related experience

  • AutoCAD

  • Vectorworks

  • Knowledge of material properties

  • Understanding and application of drafting standards

  • Good numeracy, geometry, and computer skills

  • Understanding of construction methods

 

Base Salary Range: Pay commensurate with experience; $50,000 - $65,000/year. This position is salaried, full-time, and in office.

Physical Requirements: Work is generally performed in an office setting. The ability to use standard office equipment is required.
